Opening Quotes...
“A story must be judged according to whether it makes sense. And 'making sense' must be here understood in its most direct meaning: to make sense is to enliven the senses. A story that makes sense is one that stirs the senses from their slumber, one that opens the eyes and the ears to their real surroundings, tuning the tongue to the actual tastes in the air and sending chills of recognition along the surface of the skin. To make sense is to release the body from the constraints imposed by outworn ways of speaking, and hence to renew and rejuvenate one's felt awareness of the world. It is to make the senses wake up to where they are.”
~ David Abram

"Self-awareness is your awareness of the world, which you experience through the five senses (sound, touch, sight, taste, and smell). Pay attention to your sensory impressions and be aware of those five ways that the world comes to you."
~ Deepak Chopra

"Use your senses fully. Be where you are. Look around. Just look, don’t interpret. See the light, shapes, colors, textures. Be aware of the silent presence of each thing. Be aware of the space that allows everything to be. Listen to the sounds; don’t judge them. Listen to the silence underneath the sounds. Touch something — anything — and feel and acknowledge its Being. Observe the rhythm of your breathing; feel the air flowing in and out, feel the life energy inside your body. Allow everything to be, within and without. Allow the “isness” of all things.”
~ Eckhart Tolle

“When you start using senses you've neglected, your reward is to see the world with completely fresh eyes.”
~ Barbara Sher

"When awareness embraces the senses, it enlivens them."
~ Jon Kabat-Zinn."

In your notebook, copy the quotes that resonate the most. Reflect on each quote and ask, "What's true for me today? What's sacred here?" Write in a way that is loose and free. Write to explore.

Return to your notebook list where you jotted down the 54 senses and sensitivities that resonated most for you. Read through your list and pick 3 senses that are really jumping out for you now. Use all 3 senses to create a scene or short story that embodies sensory experiences and shows a character or characters coming into a new level of awareness and recognizing a need for change. Show what it's like to work through dissonance to reach alignment and peace.
